About Dr. Jayant Kumar

My Education

Academically, Dr. Das completed his graduation from Kolkata University while simultaneously pursuing his musical education. He achieved first-class first in his post-graduation with a gold medal from Ravindra Bharathi University. Later, he pursued his Ph.D. in Music from Bangalore University, focusing on research in both South Indian and North Indian music styles, particularly exploring the nuances of South and North Indian String instruments such as Sitar, Rudra Veena and Surbahar dhrupad.

Dr. Das's musical journey is a testament to his dedication and mastery in the realms of Indian classical music. With systematic training in both the Dhrupad style on Rudra Veena and Surbahar, as well as the Khayal style on Sitar, he embodies the essence of traditional Indian music while infusing his performances with his unique artistic flair.

With over 30 years of experience as an A-grade artist in Sitar, Rudra Veena, and Surbahar, and as a staff artist at All India Radio, Dr. Das has showcased his talent globally. He has performed fusion ensembles and composed music for orchestras, collaborating with accomplished musicians from various genres.

Dr. Das's talents have garnered recognition from various quarters, with accolades such as scholarships from the Government of India and Sangeet Ravinda awards from organizations like the West Bengal Music Academy and Aryabhatta, Bangalore.     From childhood, Dr. Jayant Kumar was immersed in a musical environment, nurtured by his family's heritage and passion for music. His musical journey began with the support of a national scholarship from the Cultural Department of the Government of India. This scholarship likely provided him with the opportunity to receive formal training

This scholarship likely provided him with the opportunity to receive formal training, access resources, and further develop his skills in playing the Rudra Veena, Surbahar, and Sitar. Such governmental support underscores the recognition of his talent and potential as a musician from an early age.

    Simultaneously, while pursuing his academic qualifications, Dr. Jayant Kumar also devolaped  into his passion for music. He obtained a Bachelor's degree in Science and later pursued a post-doctoral degree, earning a gold medal from Ravindra Bharati University. Despite his academic pursuits, Dr. Jayant Kumar continued to excel in his musical endeavors.

    At a young age, he began showcasing his talent through performances on platforms such as All India Radio and Television, where he demonstrated his mastery of the Sitar and Surbahar. His performances extended to prestigious events like the Durlav Vadya Music Festival in Bhopal, where he captivated audiences with his musical prowess. These performances not only highlighted his skill but also established him as a prominent figure in the realm of Indian classical music.

    I have worked as a graphic designer for three years at ABC Agency. During my tenure, I worked on designing logos, creating marketing materials, and developing user interfaces for web applications. I also gained experience in creating animated videos using Adobe After Effects.

    National Programs: He has been featured in several prestigious national programs, including the "Tuesday Night Concert" series on Sitar, broadcasted on All India Radio. Additionally, he performed in a national program dedicated to Sitar in the year 2015 and presented a program featuring Surbahar in 2021.
